F/D Switch
- ON - Allow display of Flight Director command bars on the associated PFD when the associated Flight Director instrument
source selector is positioned to an FCC not operating an autopilot in CMD.
- OFF - Remove command bars from the associated PFD. Pitch and roll mode annunciations are removed if no autopilot is engaged.
A/T ARM Switch
- A/T ARM - Arms the autothrottle system for mode engagement.
- OFF - Disarms autothrottle, preventing engagement. Prevents engine trim equalization.
THR Switch
- Manually selects climb power.
- If current pitch mode is FLCH SPD, VNAV XXX, or TO/GA, pushing switch changes EICAS thrust limit to CLB.
- With any other pitch mode, selects autothrottle THR REF mode and throttles advance to EICAS limit.
- Switch is inhibited below 400 feet AGL.
SPD Switch
Engages autothrottle in speed mode. Switch is inactive if in the FLCH, VNAV or TO/GA pitch modes.
IAS/MACH Window
- Displays selected speed when IAS/MACH controls command speed.
- Blank when VNAV controls command speed.
- Displays 200 knots when first powered on the ground.
- The display range is 100-399 KIAS or .40-.95 MACH.
- The selected speed is displayed on the PFD.
- In climb, changes from IAS to MACH at approximately .84 MACH.
- In descent, changes from MACH to IAS at approximately 310 knots KIAS.
- The IAS/MACH window is open if SPD, FLCH, V/S or TO/A mode is active.
SEL Switch
Changes IAS/MACH window alternatedly from IAS to MACH if speed is within indicator range.
Speed Knob
- When rotated, sets speed in IAS/MACH window and command speed on PFD.
- Not operative if IAS/MACH window is blank. Pushing alternately changes IAS/MACH
window between current FMC IAS and a blank display.
- Displayed FMC target speed can be changed.
L NAV Switch
Arms or engages the Lateral Navigation mode of FMC, transferring roll and heading control for the AFDS to the FMC.
V NAV Switch
Arms or engages the Vertical Navigation mode of FMC, transferring pitch and speed control of the AFDS and autothrottle control to the FMC.
FLCH Switch
Pushing the switch selects FLCH SPD pitch mode.
Heading Control
- HDG Window - Indicates magnetic heading selected with heading select (SEL) knob if localizer has not been captured.
Indicates localizer course after localizer capture. Heading is displayed on the PFDs and NDs.
- HDG SEL Knob - Changes heading in HDG window when rotated. Engages the heading select mode when pushed. Once the mode is engaged,
the airplane turns in the direction the heading select knob is rotated. Sets the selected heading on the PFDs and NDs.
- BANK Limit Knob
- AUTO - Limits the bank angle for AFDS in heading select mode between 15-25 degrees, depending upon TAS, flap position
and V2.
- 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 - Limits bank angle for AFDS to selected value in heading select mode, regarding of airspeed.
- HDG HOLD Switch - Engages heading hold mode manually. Heading hold mode causes AFDS to rollout and hold magnetic heading existing
at wing level. Mode engages automatically in flight when the first flight director is turned on or first autopilot is engaged.
Altitude Control
- Altitude Window
- Indicates altitude selected with altitude knob.
- Establishes target and limit altitudes for all AFDS, FMC (VNAV) and altitude alert function.
- AFDS and FMC cannot fly through indicated altitude climbing or descending and cannot depart indicated altitude, except in
vertical speed mode.
- Indicates 10,000 feet when power is first applied.
- Altitude Knob
- Rotated - Changes altitude in altitude window.
- Pushed
- During climb or descent, each push deletes the next waypoint constraint between the airplane and the MCP altitude.
- During cruise with the MCP altitude window set above/below the FMC cruise altitude, it resets the FMC cruise altitude.
- Within 50 nm of the Top of Descent (T/D) and the MCP altitude set below the cruise altitude, initiates the DES NOW feature.
- Altitude HOLD Switch
- Engages altitude hold mode manually.
- Causes AFDS to capture and hold altitude existing at the time switch is pushed.
LOC Switch
Arms or engages AFDS to capture and track the localizer as follow:
- LOC is displayed in white (armed) in each PFD prior to capture.
- AFDS is armed to capture and track inbound on the fronet course.
- Capture point varies based on range and intercept angle.
- LOC capture can occur when intercept track angle is with 120 degrees of localizer course.
- Current roll mode remains engaged until localizer capture.
- LOC is displayed in green (engaged) on each PFD following capture.
APP Switch
Arms or engages AFDS to capture and track the localizer and glide slop as follow:
- LOC and G/S are displayed in white (armed) on each PFD prior to capture.
- LOC and G/S are displayed in green (engaged) on each PFD after each one is capture.
- Either LOC or G/S can be capture first.
- LOC capture can occur when intercept track angle is with 120 degrees of localizer course.
- G/S capture can occur when intercept track angle is with 80 degrees of localizer course.
- Allows arming of additional autopilots for subsequent engagement which occurs when localizer and glide slope are captured and the
radio altitude is below 500 feet.
- Autopilot system are connected to isolated power sources with three autopilots selected.
A/P Engage CMD Switches
Engage respective autopilot in CMD in active flight director mode(s) if either FD switch is ON. If both FD switches are OFF, autopilot
engages in roll mode HDG HOLD or ATT and pitch mode V/S.
Disengage Bar
- UP - Allows autopilots to be engaged.
- DOWN - Disconnects all three autopilots. Prevents engagement of the autopilots.
VERT SPD Control
- VERT SPD Window
- Indicates existing vertical speed when V/S switch is pushed to engage vertical speed mode.
- Indicates vertical speed selected with vertical speed selector when mode is engaged.
- Range is -8000 to +6000 fpm in 100 fpm increments.
- Windows is blank when V/S not engaged.
- VERT SPD Selector - Changes value in the VERT SPD window.
- V/S Switch - Engages the vertical speed mode; vertical speed is the basic pitch mode for AFDS if no other pitch mode is engaged.
